THE VILLAGE OF ROCKVILLE CENTRE HAS RECEIVED
THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE FROM PSEG

PSEG Long Island knows how important your electric service is to you.
So do imposters who use a variety of scams in attempts to steal money from our customers.

In recent weeks, there has been an increase in a new tactic that is targeting businesses:

  • An individual calls pretending to be a PSEG Long Island employee.

  • The caller demands the customer make a payment within hours using a type of pre-paid card, such as a Green Dot MoneyPak, available at pharmacies and convenience stores.

  • Customers are advised that if they do not immediately call back and provide the MoneyPak information their service will be turned off that day.

  • In many cases, customers who fall victim to the scam do not realize they have been defrauded until the next billing cycle and a payment has not been posted to their account.

Scammers may contact you by phone, e-mail or even in person.  Beware of suspicious activity and trust your instincts.
If you think you may have been the victim of a scam, please call our customer service center at 1-800-490-0025.
You may also contact your local police department.

Here are some additional tips:

·         If you receive a suspicious email, do not provide any personal information, do not download any attachments, and do not click on any links in the email.  Delete the e-mail.

  • If you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up right away and call us at 1-800-490-0025 to verify the status of your account.

  • Be particularly wary if someone claiming to be from PSEG Long Island demands payment by a specific payment method, such as a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer.  Those are simply easy ways to steal money.

  • All of our employees carry an identification (ID) badge with a color photo and company logo.  Ask to see the ID badge of anyone on your property claiming to be from PSEG Long Island.

PSEG Long Island never asks for personal information unless you have initiated the contact.  We offer a variety of payment options, and would never require you to use one, specific type of payment.  If you are suspicious of someone claiming to be from PSEG Long Island, call us at 1-800-490-0025 to verify that person’s identity
